What do we do with your information?

• When you browse our website we also automatically receive your computer’s internet protocol (IP) address in order to provide us with information that helps us learn about your browser and operating system. See more information on Cookies .
• If you send us a message using our feedback form we collect the personal information you give us such as your name, email address and query in order to reply to you. We keep your email for three months before deleting it.
• When you buy something from us, as part of the buying and selling process, we collect the personal information you give us such as your name, address and email address.
• If you request a copy of one of our extended guides for free we collect your name, email address and other personal information that you choose to give us.
• If you sign up to our newsletter and give your permission, we may send you emails about other guides and updates.

 Online surveys

We will never use information from our surveys that identify you or anyone else without your consent. We may use anonymous information in order:

• To understand more about who our users are, and what they need to know and do in order to deal with the law in their lives.
• To help us improve our guides, courses or other products or services.
• To help us argue in favour of policies and practices which will better meet the needs of our users.
• To report on our progress to funders.
• To help promote our services.

What we learn from surveys may be used in published reports, presentations and on our website and social media. We may include anonymous quotes taken directly from survey responses.

Advicenow online user account

If you:

• use our PIP, DLA or WCA letter tools, or
• buy a copy of one of our guides

you will have the option of creating an Advicenow online user account. The account collects:

• Your user name and email address.
• The last save of your letter if you have used our PIP, DLA or WCA letter tools.
• Any digital guide downloads you have purchased.
• The purchase history of any printed guides you have purchased.
• The date the account was created and when you last accessed it.

If you tick the box to be added to our mailing list, we may send you emails about other guides and updates.

If you tick the box to allow us to contact you after six and / or 12 months we may email you to find out what happened with your case and how helpful you found our guides or tools, and how they could be improved.

We will keep your account and the information in it for five years after the account was created, or five years after the account was last accessed. When an Advicenow online user account closes all data related to the account is automatically removed.

Affordable advice via Advicenow

If you decide to make an appointment with a solicitor from our panel, we will:

• Collect your details and send them to your chosen solicitor.
• Send you a confirmation email and a form for you to fill in and send to your solicitor.
• Contact you in about three months to send you a short survey about the service.
• We will keep your details for five year from your first contact with us.

You should check the privacy policy of the solicitor you chose, to find out how they will process your data. Solicitors on our panel should have an up to date privacy policy which is easy to access in advance of your appointment.

Anonymised case studies and examples

If you get in touch with us via our Feedback form we will make an anonymised copy of your message. It will not include any information which can identify you.

Sometimes we will use anonymised feedback messages, survey responses, and guide reviews as case studies and examples of the kinds of problems our users experience and what they think about our website. We will never include any details which could identify anyone.

How do you get my consent?

When you give us personal information, for example to send us feedback, complete a transaction, verify your credit card, place an order or arrange for a delivery, etc we assume that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only.

If we ask for your personal information for another reason, like marketing, we will either ask you directly for your expressed consent, or provide you with an opportunity to say no.

How do I withdraw my consent?

Disclosure

We may make your personal information available if we are required by law to do so or if you violate our terms and conditions.

Shopify

We use Shopify Inc to provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you.

Your data is stored through Shopify’s data storage, databases and the general Shopify application. They store your data on a secure server behind a firewall.

Payment

If you choose a direct payment gateway, such as PayPal, to complete your purchase, then Shopify stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted.

Other providers we use

In general, the providers we use, such as print on demand suppliers will only collect, use and disclose your information to allow them to perform the services they provide for us.

However, some providers, such as payment gateways and other payment transaction processors, have their own privacy policies for the information we need to give to them for your purchase-related transactions.

For these providers, we recommend that you read their privacy policies so you can understand how they handle your personal information.

In particular, remember that certain providers may be located in or have facilities in a different jurisdiction (outside of England and Wales). So if you decide to carry on with a transaction that involves the services of one of these, then your information may become subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which that service provider or its facilities are located.

Once you leave our website or are redirected to another website or application, you are no longer governed by this privacy notice.

When you click on links on our website, they may direct you away from our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and encourage you to read their privacy statements.

Security

To protect your personal information, we take precautions and follow best practices to make sure it is not lost, misused, or inappropriately accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed.

If you provide us with your credit card information, the information is encrypted using secure socket layer technology (SSL) and stored with a AES-256 encryption.  Although no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, we follow all PCI-DSS requirements and implement additional generally accepted industry standards.

Changes to this privacy policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy notice at any time, so please do check it frequently. Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon their posting on the website. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here that it has been updated.

If our website is acquired or merged with another organisation, your information may be transferred to the new organisation so that we may continue to sell products to you.
